LIFE-COACHING @ The Academy NJ
Life-Coaching is another important component of The Academy Way model. Life-Coaching creates a socially-emotional safety net at all of our schools. We are focused on creating school environments where students feel socially, emotionally and physically safe. Because we make this a priority, we begin every school day with Life-Coaching.
For 20-30 minutes each morning, various topics (see below) are discussed. During this time, we divide our entire student body into small groups to talk about LIFE. Nothing interrupts this time.
The Academy NJ is a specialized Accredited School for Children with Dyslexia, ADHD, and Non-Traditional Learners, located in Holmdel, NJ.
Goal of Life-Coaching
It is our goal for each student to create a meaningful, trusting, and reliable relationship with an adult during their Life-Coaching time. This is why we keep our Life-Coaching groups together for as many consecutive school years as possible. Life-Coaches help guide and support students in their Life-Coaching group through school and life struggles when they arise.
Special bonds are created between each student and their Life-Coach, as well as between students during our Life-Coaching environment. We hope these bonds evolve into life-long relationships for everyone involved in each of our Life-Coaching groups.

Gender-Based
As students get older, we create gender specific and smaller-sized groups. When possible, an adult of the same gender as the students is assigned to each Life-Coaching group. We believe as students get older, there is more specific life information that needs to be shared and discussed with each other in these groups.
Information a student shares during Life-Coaching that may jeopardize their emotional or physical safety is immediately shared with parents.
